As the Yankee victory parade roared through lower Manhattan, striped tops have saturated the stores. Before buying your celebratory stripes, be aware that the horizontal stripes found in most stores are not as flattering as the thin vertical stripes on the uniforms of the baseball champions.

In the right silhouette and width, horizontal stripes can be suitable for all body types. Update the winter staple found in everyone’s closet, the classic turtleneck, with J.Crew’s merino microstripe turtleneck sweater with solid contrasts at the neck and cuff. Also from J.Crew is the perfect layering piece: the graphic stripe forever cardigan. Although its stripes are not as thin as the microstripe turtleneck, the vneck silhouette and extra long 30 inch length hides a multitude of flaws.

Not ready to dip into the stripe pool just yet? Try J.Crew’s mohair retro-stripe vneck cardigan. With just three collegiate-inspired stripes at the chest and pocket, this cardigan will forever be in style. Be fashion-fierce with Gap’s blend of thick and thin stripes in a crew with oversized ribbed cuffs. Ready to plunge into thick horizontal stripes? The sleeveless cardigan from Forever 21 is a budget-friendly, versatile option for the daring fashionista.
