Daniel Raeder, 17, of Rockville, Md., holds a rainbow flag by the Capitol as thousands of gay rights advocates rally in Washington, on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed two gay rights bills, both sponsored by state Sen. Mark Leno, (D-SF) late Sunday. The first designates May 22nd as "Harvey Milk Day" in the state, a bill that Schwarzenegger vetoed last year. It will not be a state holiday, but memorializes Harvey Milk, assassinated gay rights activist and San Francisco's first openly gay Supervisor. The second bill requires that state of California to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. Both bills were introduced on the eve of the National Equality March in Washington, DC.
