The Oregon State Fair August 28 - September 7 is too big to miss!

As far as fairs go, the 146th Oregon State Fair is the really big one—11 days packed with fabulous entertainment, farm animals, Funtastic carnival rides, and of course food! The 2009 Oregon State Fair in Salem is also a big value. One ticket price includes performances on 12 different stages (circus acts, magicians, bands) indoor exhibits (culinary and home arts, photography), animals galore (from draft horses to baby chicks), plus all kinds of activities and contests (corn shucking, milk moustache, NPRA rodeo). That’s a short list. And if you want an even bigger bang for your buck, visit on special days that offer reduced admission price. Oh, yeah, and there’s 6,000 free parking spaces available all 11 days!

This year, opening day is dedicated to Oregon’s big 150th birthday. Join Governor Ted Kulongoski on Friday, August 28 at 3:00 pm when he unveils the new State Fair icon, announces a new special Oregon Heritage designation, and generally kicks off an 11-day celebration of Oregon.

Although there’s a ton of free shows, concerts in the L.B. Day Comcast Amphitheater require additional tickets. Some of the really big names this year include the legendary rock band The Doobie Brothers, country music singer Reba McEntire, pop star Katy Perry, and Peter Cetera with The Oregon Symphony.

Doesn’t all that big fun have you hankering for a corndog and a funnel cake? See you at the fair!

While in Salem, romp in Riverfront Park, tour the Bush House Museum, see a play at the Historic Elsinore Theatre, and enjoy many other Willamette Valley attractions, too.
