Colorado breastfeeding law to go into effect Aug. 5
According to The Colorado Independent, a new law goes into effect Aug. 5 that will allow Colorado women to have plenty of time and necessary privacy to breastfeed their infants while at work. Thanks to the new law, women won't be penalized for such an act.
There's no better time for this law to come into effect, since it's World Breastfeeding Week. Every year from Aug. 1 to 7, a new, celebratory campaign is put forth to educate families on the benefits of breastfeeding. This year, in honor of the summer Olympics, the theme is "Mother Support: Going for the Gold."
This year's goals for World Breastfeeding Week:
- Draw attention to the value of continuing to breastfeed children to 2 years or beyond.
- Raise awareness of the risks and costs of introducing other foods and drinks to breastfed babies before 6 months, thereby strengthening support for 6 months exclusive breastfeeding.
- Provide up-date information and ideas about the kinds of other foods and drinks needed by older breastfed babies and young children after 6 months.
- Share ideas for making complementary feeding easier, healthier and a time for learning and love.
