Welcome to the first installment of a new series on the Denver Women's Examiner page: Million Dollar Woman. Basically, readers can nominate a woman who's making moves in her community, family, office, band, relationship, what-have-you -- and I'll post your submissions, ideas, links and bits of inspiration here.

Allow me to kick off this series by introducing you to Amy, of Wheat Ridge, who was nominated as a Million Dollar Woman by her brother-in-law Dan Benedict, of Lakewood.

Benedict is an engineer for Aspen Operating, and needless to say, he admires his sister-in-law to pieces. Leave it to Benedict to dish the details on this great local lady. He says:

My sister-in-law Amy is an amazing person to feature, though she might get a little embarrassed. She's 26 and works as a Bio-Medical Engineer for a small company in Wheat Ridge. She has been with them since interning there over five years ago. She is now temporarily working from home since she just gave birth to my nephew Ty seven weeks ago, but she worked in her office running experiments and writing grants right up until the baby was born.  She pretty much runs her company.

So, in summary -- super business woman, supermom, supersister, superwife -- and just an all around amazing person that I am lucky to know.

She just received what is basically preliminary approval from the government for a multi-million dollar grant for one of her company's new technologies.  She wrote the grant entirely on her own, and when finalized, it will be enough to keep her company operating at a high level for several years.

She's from Colorado, (her first couple years of high school were in Grand Junction, then her family moved and she finished at Smoky Hill in Aurora), started college at the University of Wyoming before transferring to Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, where she was also a varsity swimmer and honor student.

She's much better at explaining it than I am, but I am basically just a big fan of hers! So, in summary, super business woman, supermom, supersister, superwife ... and just an all around amazing person that I am lucky to know.

Nominate a Million Dollar Woman: Do you know a woman who deserves recognition? Have her highlighted here.

Maybe you know a real "supermom" or a young gal who is kicking ass at an internship. Maybe you know a woman in your office who isn't high in the ranks, but she exemplifies a real "Million Dollar Woman." Brag about her to me and I'll post it all here.
