After much adieu about something, else there wouldn’t have been a quarterback race in the first place, head coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff have finally decided on a No. 1 on the Utes depth chart, subject to change at any time.
It will be freshman Jordan Wynn, who was just weeks removed from his early high school graduation last spring when he first suited up for the Utes’ at spring camp and won the hearts and minds of Ute insiders.
Since then, Wynn and his cannon arm have been nothing short of impressive, leading some, including David Locke of 1320 KFAN Radio to call Wynn the “best” out of the three in his “Locked On Sports” segment yesterday afternoon, after watching the scrimmage that helped determine the outcome.
As I first predicted, Corbin Louks is indeed the odd man out for now, as junior college transfer Terrance Cain will be Wynn’s backup.
As Whittingham indicated yesterday, the depth chart is subject to change at any time during fall camp, which is scheduled to continue until Aug. 22.
Wynn will quarterback the first unit starting this afternoon, while Cain will man the second unit and Louks the third.
Chances are pretty good, however, that the chart will change between now and the Utes’ home opener Sept. 3 against Utah State.
It is nice to see that some progress is being made at the quarterback position, however slight.
