The unpredictable Utah Utes did it again, but this time they didn’t leave anything to question. Having survived a ferocious last-minute rally from No. 16 Gonzaga and then destroying Wyoming in home contests last week has done wonders for these Utes, who blasted LSU 91-61 at the Huntsman Center Tuesday night.
Even though LSU came into the game with a 12-1 record, it hardly mattered to the Utes, who have now won four straight and five out of their last six. Center Luke Nevill paced the Utes with 23 points, scoring 17 of those in the first half.
Utah now stands at 10-5 overall, 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference going into Saturday‘s conference tussle at San Diego State, followed by a road trip to Air Force next Wednesday.
Carlon Brown added 17 points for the Utes, who shot a season-high 65 percent from the field and a whopping 88 percent from the charity stripe. Taking a 43-34 lead into the halftime buzzer, Utah wasted little time in doubling their lead to 65-46 with about 11 minutes remaining.
LSU dropped to 12-2 on the season and were led by Marcus Thornton, who scored 17 points in the losing effort. Tasmin Mitchell had 14 points and Chris Johnson scored 13.
