It's probably the only intelligent thing Joe Biden has said in a year.
From WSJ.
Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged today that Democrats could face political repercussions in 2010 for their support of the $900 billion economic stimulus package.“But when we do [approve it], I’m sure you’re going to be nailed in ads, ‘Well they voted on that’ 30 second ads,” Biden told roughly 200 members of the House Democratic Caucus gathered here for their three day annual retreat. “I promise you as [a colleague] once said to me, ‘I’ll come campaign for you or against you, whichever will help you the most in your district.’ And so will the president because, again, we’re all in this together.”
Yep. The good thing about "all being in this together," is that they can all get thrown out of office together. Biden even acknowledged that the whole thing might be a bad move for the country.
“If we do everything right, if we do it with absolute certainty, there’s still a 30% chance we’re going to get it wrong,” was his message at the meeting.
Now when a hyper-partisan Democrat Vice-President give 30% odds of "getting it wrong," wouldn't it be fair to say that an objective, non-partisan observer would put the same odds much higher than that? I don't pretend to be that observer. I think, to a moral certainty, they are getting it wrong, and I am content to wait until next year for the verdict. When your political opponents state such doubts publicly, you can imagine what they are saying in private.
With Obama's approval rating dropping (here and here), and recent elections and polls showing a favorable trend for Republicans in the face of the Democrats' folly, Joe Biden may turn out to be the smartest man in America.
