Gallup breaks the bad news.
In Gallup Daily tracking that spans Barack Obama's third quarter in office (July 20 through Oct. 19), the president averaged a 53% job approval rating. That is down sharply from his prior quarterly averages, which were both above 60%.In fact, the 9-point drop in the most recent quarter is the largest Gallup has ever measured for an elected president between the second and third quarters of his term, dating back to 1953. One president who was not elected to his first term -- Harry Truman -- had a 13-point drop between his second and third quarters in office in 1945 and 1946.

Obama's overall third quarter approval rating of 53% was also the second lowest (behind Clinton) of any elected president in modern history.
Gallup examined the events that took place in this most disastrous of quarters and saw the beginning of the push on health care reform coupled with the angry August townhalls on top of a nearly 10% unemployment rate.
When these daily approval polls are condensed into quarterly reports they really give a good flavor of where things are headed. Clearly the health care debate rages on and unemployment will not likely begin to decline any time soon. One wonders how low The One is willing to push this thing before crying uncle. My guess is that he is a true believer and will risk his entire presidency to create a massive new government program that concentrates power in the federal government. After all, when you control everyone's health, you really control their very lives.
