On Thursday, I’m hosting a party and you should come! I am co-producing a women’s theatre festival in May and the girls and I are throwing a big bash called The Lady Cakes Ball to help us fundraise. So put your dancing shoes on and come to Karma in the East Village this Thursday, April 16th. Here’s the line up – it’s pretty awesome!
7pm-8pm: open mic (we want to hear you sing!)
8:30pm-9pm: a performance by one of my favorite New York singers, Ms. Deanna Neil. She does rock lullabies!
9:30pm: Hot Burlesque dancers perform dressed up as celebrities. I think Marilyn will be there.
10pm-11pm: The Indie Rock Band Steer
11pm: on Blue Berry Jam (a Grateful Dead cover band).
The price? Only $10 at the door. Oh and did I mention the free cupcakes!?
We hope to see you out and about. All the proceeds will help pay for the production of Femme Feast at Manhattan Theatre Source in May.
If $10 is too much, how about free? As you know NYC is full of theatre schools – from Columbia to NYU. Around this time of year, most of the schools are having their final showcases and festivals to show off their graduating students to prospective agents and casting directors.
I graduated from the New School for Drama's MFA program and I know that these are well-produced plays, with some very good acting. Best of all, they are free. So if you are looking for something fun to do – and potentially want to catch the next rising playwright, actor or director before they get famous, head on down to Bank Street.
