Oprah Winfrey has decided to edit gospel singer and friend BeBe Winans out of an upcoming episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show after shouts of hypocrisy emerged. Winans has been charged with domestic violence after allegedly pushing his ex-wife Debrah at her Nashville home.
The reason for the criticism is that Oprah has previously been very vocal against domestic violence -- earlier this year she had canceled an appearance by Chris Brown after his arrest for assaulting singer Rihanna, and instead devoted an entire show to the topic.
Winans had taped an upcoming episode which featured a "karaoke challenge" along with other singers, but an Oprah spokesperson has now said Winans will be edited out of the episode, and will not return to the program until his legal issues are resolved.
Winans has appeared on the Oprah show on a number of occasions, including a performance on a post presidential election special last year celebrating the election of Barack Obama.
