The aloe plant is indigenous to Africa but can be found in most homes today.  It provides quick relief for burns, scrapes, and skin infections.

The medicinal part of this plant is the mucilaginous gel from the center of the leaf.  It is unclear just how this wonder plant works its miracles on wounds.  One theory is that the aloe gel spurs blood flow to the wounded area and helps cells to regenerate, but this is only speculation.  What is known is that the aloe gel contains antifungal and anti-inflammatory components among other healing compounds, making it the perfect topical treatment for burns, skin abrasions and irritations.

Homeopathic and Natural Remedies for Aloe Vera
·          The gel from the aloe vera plant may be applied directly to minor burns, sunburns, poison-ivy rashes, cuts and scrapes for immediate relief. It is also very effective for radiation therapy burns, eczema, psoriasis, and frostbite.
·          Slow healing wound can be treated by applying a whole leaf. Slice the aloe leaf down the center and apply to the wound gel side down. Hold in place and cover with gauze.
·          The gel from the aloe plant is a natural moisturizer.  It softens the skin and helps to restore damaged tissue.

Planting and Harvesting Aloe
·          Harvest the gel of the aloe plant from the outermost leaves anytime of the year.
·          Fresh gel directly from the aloe plant works best.
·          Harvest aloe gel from plants that are at least 2 years old.

Warnings
·          Although the aloe plant has a potent laxative juice that comes from the base of the leaves, it causes painful cramping and it is seldom used for this purpose.
·          Using natural herbal remedies, homeopathic remedies, and natural cures is like using any other medication. Discus plans with a medical doctor and be sure to inform him/her of any prescription drugs that are currently being taken to eliminate the possibility of drug interactions.
