Juniper essential oil is derived from the berries, and sometimes growing tips, of the Juniperus communis tree. The essential oil is a colorless or pale green-yellow, thin oil that smells strong and pine-like with a penetrating fragrance.

Medicinal Benefits of Juniper Essential Oil

Juniper essential oil helps prevent and relieve respiratory infections. The oil has an anti-inflammatory effect and is a natural diuretic. Juniper essential oil has been studied for it's ability to decrease fluid retention and cystitis. It seems to also have a beneficial effect for joint pain and arthritis symptoms.

For disinfectant uses, juniper blends well with rosemary essential oil.

Cosmetic Use - Because the oil is a circulatory stimulant and has antibacterial effects, it is sometimes used in anti-acne facial treatments.

Emotional Effects of Juniper Essential Oil

Juniper essential oil helps aid with mental fatigue, insomnia, feeling overwhelm or "run down", nervous trembling. The detoxifying effect seems to extend to the mind, helps to purify the mind and relieve a busy mind full of jumbled thoughts.

Cautions - Overuse can irritate the kidneys and should not be used by people with damaged kidneys.
