Bay laurel (Laurus nobilis) has a spicy, strong aroma that has been used to flavor commercial soups, liqueurs and even men's cologne. The essential oil has a helpful place in the medicine cabinet with medicinal and emotional benefits.

Medicinal Benefits of Bay Laurel Oil

Bay laurel essential oil is a stimulant to the lungs, lymph system, digestion, and circulatory system. It will help with sinuses, and is an effective insect repellent as well. Bay laurel essential oil is often used in muscle pain blends as well for it's stimulating, warming effect. In studies, bay laurel essential oil was found to counteract drug-resistant strains of Campylobacter jejuni bacteria which causes diarrhea.

Emotional Effects of Bay Laurel Essential Oil

Bay laurel is a stimulating, invigorating oil that can relieve headaches, clear the mind and help calm stressful feelings in situations where action is still needed. It is said to improve memory.

Cautions for Bay Laurel Essential Oil

The warming action can irritate the skin of those with sensitive skin so be sure to check for reactions before using in a topical blend. Also, since the oil is emmenagogue and can bring on a delayed menstrual cycle, it should not be used during pregnancy.

This is a popular essential oil to add to diffusing blends in a work space where you are worried about getting sick from other people. The bay laurel essential oil will help keep your mind sharp and active, while acting as a disinfectant. It is also used in muscle relief blends as well.
