The best take out sushi in Dallas comes from a tiny Japanese shop called Seabose.  Until I discovered Seabose Grocery, Sushi and Seafood, I had no idea that the words sushi and cheap could co-exist peacefully in the same sentence.

The US economy is far from robust these days and even though the Dow has been up lately, my bank balance remains down– way down.  Under the circumstances, eating out in sushi bars can only be an occasional treat.

What about take out?  Great idea, but take out sushi from Japanese restaurants is way too expensive.  And let's face it:  grocery store sushi is almost always disappointing.

You can make your own, of course, but that takes time and you still need a reasonably priced source of sushi grade fish.  Some days, all you really want is to eat something yummy without a whole lot of effort.  What is a poor sushi lover like me to do?

Enter Seabose.

Seabose Grocery, Seafood and Sushi is located on the southwest corner of Trinity Mills and Marsh Lane in Carrollton, and it must be one of the best kept secrets in Dallas.  Unless you happen to be Japanese, that is, since Seabose is well known and respected in the Japanese community.

Seabose does not have on site seating, but they do have take out sushi that is impeccably fresh, exquisitely prepared and the best value in Dallas.  Sushi and sashimi prices are about half of what you would pay in your local sushi bar, and the quality is just as good and often better.

Quality sushi takes time to prepare, so if you order takeout from Seabose, I suggest you do as the Japanese customers do and call ahead.  The number is 214-483-5839, or fax in your order on 214-483-2196.   If you can read Japanese, check out the Seabose Blog, where the owner keeps his Japanese speaking customers up to date on what is fresh and in stock.

Seabose sells a limited quantity of Japanese items, including a decent selection of Pocky and other snacks.  If you would like to to try your hand at making your own sushi, Seabose can set you up with everything you need, including advice.

Seabose Grocery, Sushi and Seafood is open Tuesday through Friday 11 am to 7:30pm, Saturday 8:30am to 7:30pm, and Sunday 11:00am to 6:00pm.
