Bruce Gradkowski is sacked, fumbles the ball and this summed up a miserable day for the Raiders

OAKLAND, Calif. -- What a disaster for the Oakland Raiders, arguably the worst game since the franchise returned to Oakland in 1995.

A week after an improbable upset of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Raiders literally embarrassed themselves.  Fortunately, it wasn't a sellout so the Bay Area didn't have to watch this game on television and suffer through the drudgery of being on the wrong end of a 38-0 shutout against the New York Jets.

Even before the first play from scrimmage, the Raiders were behind the eight ball.  A penalty for an illegal block put the Raiders on the 10-yard line.  JaMarcus Russell got sacked and fumbled the ball.  The Jets took over on the Raiders 4-yard line and it was an easy 1-yard run for Thomas Jones as the "Titans from New York", wearing their 1960 throwbacks, took a quick 7-0 lead.

On the Raiders third drive Russell threw a wobbly pass intended for Zach Miller. Instead, it was intecepted by Safety Jim Leonhard who returned it 44 yards against to the Raider 4-yard line.

On second down, rookie Mark Sanchez scored on a 3-yard draw run out of the shotgun for a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, the Jets added to their lead on an 8-yard run by rookie Shonn Green completing a 10 play, 93 yard drive.  And just before halftime, Jay Feely booted a 39-yard field goal to give New York a 24 point advantage.

The Raiders did their best to keep the Jets off the scoreboard in the third quarter....until Sanchez hooked up with David Clowney on a beautiful 35 yard over the shoulder pass as Clowney beat cornerback Chris Johnson, running up the score to 31-0.

Greene put the final nail in the coffin on 3rd-and 8 with a 33-yard touchdown run to seal it for a 38-0 win.

Raiders coach Tom Cable informed the media after the win against the Eagles that his team would have to be stronger and see how they dealt with success.  Evidently, that message was lost on his team.

Richard Seymour, perhaps jokingly on a sports radio talk show admitted the Raiders would make the playoffs.  The truth of the matter is, the Raiders have lost 11 games in six consecutive seasons, worst stretch of futility by any NFL team over that span.

Oakland is 2-5, and appears headed to another 11 loss season.
