Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham started his second straight Serie A match, playing an integral role in the go-ahead goal for AC Milan in the team's 1-0 win over Fiorentina.
The England national team member played 81 minutes for Milan, again the holding midfield spot, though at times he drifted out to his more natural right midfield spot. He also took most of the team's corner kicks throughout the match.
Beckham played a key role in giving Milan the early lead. His cross off a short corner was blocked, but he won the ball back from two Fiorentina players, dropping it off to Pirlo, who threaded the ball through to Pato on his first touch. Pato did the work from there, finding the far lower corner and breakign the scoreless deadlock.
Beckham left the match in the 81st minute, replaces by new Milan defender Phillppe Senderos.
In an exclusive interview with LA Soccer Examiner on Thursday afternoon, Los Angeles Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said that he expects, no what the outcome of Beckham's loan to AC Milan, that the England star will be back in a Galaxy uniform come March.
"I want all the fans to know that we fully expect [David] Beckham and [Landon] Donovan to be back.," Arena said.
Beckham is entering the third year in his five year deal, reported to be worth in the range of $250 million, when jersey sales and image rights are tallied.
