Honor veterans at this free 5K/10K walk through historic Vancouver, Washington and view the Vancouver Veterans Parade on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. The walk starts from 9 am until noon at the VA Medical Center, Building D7, 1601 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA. The route will include the Vancouver Post Cemetery, Clark College, Officer's Row, Fort Vancouver National Historic Area, and the Vancouver Land Bridge.

Walkers will be able to catch the parade as it proceeds down Officer's Row and into downtown Vancouver. The parade starts at 10:00 am with a 21-gun salute fired by Howitzer cannons from the Parade Ground of the Fort Vancouver National Site, continues along Officers Row and ends at Esther Short Park downtown. More than 100 military, veteran and civic organizations and 2,500 individuals participate in the parade. Stop at the checkpoint or along the way to enjoy the parade.

Walkers are encouraged to bring coffee mugs to donate for use by the hospitalized veterans.

The walk is a free volkssport walking event, open to the public.  It is sponsored by the Vancouver USA Volkssporters and the VA Employees Wellness Program.
