Not much for Mark Richt to applaud lately.

Bulldog Nation is still replaying the week-old whuppin' by Florida. It has assembled a firing squad, aiming in the general Athens area in hopes of (metaphorically speaking) picking off the head coach, a coordinator or the quarterback fired. Or, all of the above.

That's the whacko world we live in. In this economy, losing one's job is no big deal, and fans somehow believe they'll feel better if a school or pro team dumps a person in charge.

UGA athletics director Damon Evans felt compelled the day after Election Tuesday to cast a vote of confidence for Mark Richt.

As for coordinators Willie Martinez (defense), the object of most disgruntled fans' ire, and Mike Bobo (offense), their fates are unclear until the offseason. Martinez likely will be thrown to the wolves.

Richt considered axing -- well, demoting -- fifth-year senior quarterback Joe Cox after a desultory showing against the Gators but elected to keep the red-shirts on his freshmen and go with ol' Joe.

The Florida-Georgia game also won't go away because of controversies, from Brandon Spikes eye-gouging of a Bulldog (resulting in a stupid half-game suspension from Urban Meyer, since amended to a full game) to Meyer sending a tape to the SEC office of an alleged UGA late hit.

Easy to forget the Dawgs have a game Saturday, against Tennessee Tech. (No, it's not a scrimmage. The Dawgs deserve a break in the schedule.) Until then, the Florida fallout will persist.

An eye-popping no-no by Brandon Spikes.
