Last night, aboard the Lilac Steamship, I experienced the beauty of dance and history.
Ann Robideaux and Alexandra Shilling of Ann and Alexx Make Dances joined forces again to create another unique and innovative dance performance on the historic Lilac. Dancers, dressed in 1930s garb, float amidst the buoy deck to music of the era. Live music accompanies parts of the performance, with a highly entertaining version of "I wanna be loved by you." I won't give it away, you'll just have to see it for yourself. Creative dance with jackets and use of this impressive ship make this one of the most original performances I've ever seen and I highly recommend seeing it while you have the chance.
There's no better set than the ship itself, and the ship is open for exploration before and after the performance. Read all about the vessel's history here.
The past five years Ann and Alexx Make Dances have created dances inspired by non-traditional spaces. The lightship "Frying Pan," the Eldridge Street Synagogue, in the pool at Galapagos Art Space and flipping the audience to have them grace the stage while the performers take over the theater are just a few of the creative ideas and places Robideaux and Shilling have displayed their works.
The Lilac Dances will continue for one more weekend. Visit Ann and Alexx Make Dances to reserve your tickets.
