Forget the iMac - how about a slick, fast all-in-one PC for less than $600?

Enter the Asus EeeTop ET2002.

Out-of-the-box Specs:
Intel Atom 330 Processor
RAM 2 GB
320 GB Hard Drive
DVD-RW
NVIDIA ION chipset w/ Gigabit Ethernet, 5.1 Surround Sound, WLAN 802.11b/g/n
Wireless Keyboard & Mouse with integrated receiver
Webcam
Vista Home Premium
20" Widescreen TFT

The price of this thing? An unimaginably low $599....

The first thing I noticed as I turned it on for the first time (other than how nice it looked) was that there was only 1 wire - the AC Adapter to plug into the wall. Then, I immediately wiped out Vista and put on the RTM evaluation copy of WIndows 7 - which still works until March.

The process was easy, and Windows 7 detected almost every driver except for a "Coprocessor", and was unable to find a driver for it via Windows Update. No worries, this is only temporary just to test things out until the EeeTop with preloaded Win7 comes out within the next few weeks.

Since I loaded Windows 7 myself, there was no preloaded software. I hear Asus has some innovative software for these EeeTops, such as voice recognition and control and I look forward to trying them out soon. I just hope any preloaded software doesn't slow things down too much or cause harassment.

So here's where I'd normally list the pros and cons, but I honestly can't think of any cons. The computer ran amazingly fast no matter what I threw at it. I played World of Warcraft in windowed mode while watching live Internet TV in Windows Media Center while having three browser windows open and it didn't skip a beat. It's also rather attractive looking, and with the one wire very easy to take to another room.

I am continuing to fall in love with the Intel Atom processor, and truly see it's offspring powering most new computers over the next few years. I am researching for my next article the energy savings computers like the EeeTop provide over traditional PC's - I am told it is 5-10% of the energy which can come close to saving you the price of the computer in your electric bills.
