It's no Hollywood town, but Classic Cinemas in Fox Lake, IL drew quite a crowd on Wednesday night for the opening of "This Is It", the compilation of rehearsal footage from Michael Jackson's unrealized tour of the same name. Popular local radio station Star 105.5 spent the day broadcasting from the theater.
Afternoon DJ Lisa Allen and Promotions Director Erica Lorenz were on hand for the event. Besides broadcasting from the theater, they hosted the 7:30pm screening, which included impromptu singing and dancing of Michael Jackson hits to win posters and T-shirts. Several of Star 105.5's listeners scored free tickets to the showing. The radio station has hosted many film premieres, including "Sex and the City" and most recently "Julie and Julia." Premieres have also been held in Carpentersville and Woodstock.
Eager viewers lined up over thirty minutes early to see "This Is It", leading to a line outside of the theater room doors. Currently, Classic Cinemas Fox Lake is running the film on only one screen. It remains to be seen whether or not the theater will add additional showtimes to meet the demand. If Wednesday night was any indication, the demand could be very high, especially as the two-week limited engagement begins to wind down.
