Whenever I’m in Portland it’s a must that I take a trip down to Blush Beauty Bar on 23rd Ave. I love cosmetics and I’m a fanatic for Sephora, so when I discovered an independent makeup store that was privately-owned filled with brands like Nars, Bare Minerals and Lorac I practically went into cardiac arrest. Blush Beauty Bar carries makeup, skincare, fragrances, accessories and offers services like makeup application and brow waxing. My new favorite products from Blush is the Freeze 24/7 Ice Shield, the first ever face wash with a built in sunscreen of SPF 15 ($65). (That’s like killing two birds with one stone!)
Owner Deborah Haynes worked for MAC Cosmetics for 14 years before opening up her own shop. Her goal with Blush Beauty Bar was to fill the void for girls who wanted to buy beauty products but didn’t want the typical beauty counter experience. Blush Beauty Bar provides a fun atmosphere mixed with quality products and the real appeal is actually more about what’s missing (i.e. pushy sales people, department store prices, the aggressive sales pitch). Deborah also takes a personal interest in making sure the brands carried in her store are ethical in the way they operate their business, treat their employees and produce and package their products. A few of Deborah’s personal beauty faves include Susan Posnick Mineral foundation, Somme Institute Skincare, and Eyeko Mascara. Her best beauty advice? Always wash your face at night and use a good moisturizer. Words of wisdom spoken from a true professional!
