Each year, the President proclaims that November will be when the nation will support and educate others on the adoption process. The celebrations began in 1976 in Massachusetts with just a week of events, but then in 1990, President Gerald R. Ford extended it to a nationwide event for an entire month.

Throughout the state of Michigan, there are many different events taking place for National Adoption Month, most are following court proceedings where adoptions will be finalized. To find out if there is an event in your area, see the state listing on the National Adoption Day Website.

In addition to the four weeks of honoring the process, November 24th has been named the National Adoption Day in Michigan where families take time to promote awareness of the need for adoptive families for orphaned children and those in the foster care system.

Some ways you can honor the adoption process in November are found on Adoption.com's 30 days of events.
