Does using Google to surf the Web make you smarter?
Given the fact that searches such as "Why won't my parakeet eat my diarrhea" are commonly executed, one wouldn't think that Google-searching would equate with intelligence.
But it turns out that search engines can help prevent dementia and memory loss, a new study shows. National Geographic has the full story.
The study found that middle-aged and older people show increased brain activity when they surf the Web for an hour or two a day. The practice of looking for new information stimulates the brain, much like playing bridge and doing puzzles.
Let's just hope that the study group wasn't searching for information on the eating habits of parakeets.
