PERINTON, NY -- Mykonos Restaurant was briefly closed by the state, but quickly re-opened its doors.
Susan Burns, a spokesperson for the state Department of Taxation and Finance, said the restaurant, located in the Perinton Hills Shopping Center in this Monroe County town, was padlocked Tuesday morning for alleged non-payment of state sales taxes.
Burns said two separate warrants were filed in Monroe County Court for non-payment of sales taxes: $109.28, entered May 14; $13,066.50, entered July 2, both for the period between Sept. 1 and November 30, 2008.
The restaurant is owned by Effie Kapatos of Gates.
Steffie Rizos, her sister and the manager of the restaurant, told reporters the taxes were paid late Tuesday afternoon at the state’s Rochester tax office, and tax officials were met at the Mosley Rrestaurant about 8:30 a.m. today. She said the business reopened at 9 a.m., two hours later than its usual start.
NOTES ON NAPKINS: Rizos said the back taxes on the restaurant, which had moved here from Henrietta about eight months ago, were erroneously charged against Mykonos when they actually were owed by the building's previous owner and that the current company plans to appeal. ... Mykonos is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
