SYRACUSE, NY -- Dinosaur Barbeque has a broad reputation in Upstate New York and, more recently, New York City, but its renown may grow this weekend.
ABC's “Good Morning America” filmed a segment Wednesday at the original Dinosaur site here to be featured on the show this Saturday about the best barbecue restaurants in the nation. It's one of four selected. The others are Cousin's Barbecue in Fort Worth, TX; Woody's Smoke Shack in Des Moines, IA, and Archibald's Barbecue in Northport, AL. ABC says it will choose the top restaurant by way of viewers' online votes, with the results to be announced Sunday. While owner John Stage and his crew are awaiting the results, the folks in Troy are hoping for a result of a different sort. Led by Mayor Harry Tutunjian, the city has been lobbying strongly for Stage to open another Dinosaur -- he has one each in Harlem and Rochester in addition to the original -- probably in the shuttered Fresno's located on the east bank of the Hudson River in downtown.
