SYRACUSE, NY -- The Salt City will be getting a new Middle Eastern restaurant.

The Downtown Committee of Syracuse Inc. has approved a $30,000 grant to Fady Khabbaz to help renovate 223 North Clinton Street to house such a restaurant along with a studio apartment.

The building, located near the iconic Dinosaur BBQ north of Clinton Square,  once housed Sha-Ling's Chinese Takeout.

Khabbaz, 32, already has hired craftsmen to begin renovating the building's brick facade, install new windows, re-roof the building, install hardwood flooring and do other work.

His restaurant, called Byblos, will be run by his mother Violette Khabazz, a caterer who formerly had a Middle Eastern restaurant in North Syracuse.
