Thanksgiving is the time of year when families get together and share laughter, stories, and good food. With the loss of jobs and the dramatic rise in prices of nearly everything, will you be able to afford a big Thanksgiving this year? Sure you can! Always remember, it doesn't matter how much you spent on the placemats and napkins or if your drinking White Wine or Kool-Aid - it's about having the family together!
When shopping for the food always keep in mind taste and price. You always want what your cooking to taste delicious, especially when you have company dining with you. There are lots of different name brands that claim to be the best when in reality most of them are the same - sugar is sugar and pinto beans are pinto beans - the only difference is package #1 is $1.16 more than package #2 and they have added an extra picture or maybe more color into their packaging. Never try to over-due it, always stick with the common necessities. For example, if you know you will be feeding around 10 people, why go through the cost and hassle of fixing three different types of gravy, two types of mashed potatoes, along with french bread, rolls, and cresants? Keep everything as cheap as you can, neat, and stress free. I know, that sounds very hard to do when you are planning an unforgetable holiday feast to share with your family. Cook what you would like to serve instead of trying to plan for everyones individual tastes. Most people who attend get togethers are more excited about seeing one another and the fact that the food if free instead of picking at how it tastes or theres not enough salt in the dressing, the gravy is too watery. It will be fine.
To make cleaning up easier on you and less time consuming, consider using paper or plastic plates, cups, and eating utensils. Make tea for everyone (better to have sweet and unsweet, keep in mind everyones idea of sweet are always different) instead of trying to buy enough sodas for everyone. Hit up the local discount stores to get really good deals. At the local Dollar Stores you can usually buy a tablecloth spoons, plates, cups and small decorations all for around $20 (depending on how may people you will be serving).
