2007 Santa Rita 120

When the summertime hits and the BBQ’s get fired up, the wine cabinet usually takes a pretty big hit. If you are stocking it up with expensive wines, you will be broke before the middle of July gets here. You obviously want to have some red wine in there that will hold up to the sauces and meats that you will be grilling, but who wants to pay the typical bottle price of $20 or more for a decent red?

Once again, Chile comes to the rescue and features several flavorful wines that you can find for under $10. Get rid of the idea that you have to spend a ton of money for good wine. Anyone that tells you that has no idea about the wines that are the market right now that will cost you very little and stand up to the commercial labels. Santa Rita is one such label and they have two red wines that you can stock up on for the summer time.

The 2007 Santa Rita 120 Cabernet Sauvignon is like stealing money. Open this bottle up, pour someone a glass and ask them how much they think the wine is worth. It would be surprising if you got one answer that is anywhere close to the actual price. The bouquet of the wine is a little weak, but that is the only thing that offers the slightest hint that this wine is inexpensive. A quick mouthful fills the palate with loads of berries and a hint of cassis.

The 2007 Santa Rita 120 Merlot, while the same price as the Cabernet, gives you even more value for your money. The bouquet on the Merlot is fantastic. Bury your nose in the glass and enjoy the leather, mixed berries and olive. The palate is true and continues the flavors of berries and lots of dark fruits. It also features a very lengthy finish for the price.

Enjoy both bottles all summer long and being mass production wines, you should have no problems getting them on either the internet or at your local wine store. Shop around for the best price as some outlets do have this priced a little high because of the good reviews. You are not going to want to miss tomorrow’s article as we dive deep into the wonderful world of New Zealand wines and why they are such a great option during troubling economic times.
