Ice Hockey in Harlem is coming to Madision Square Garden
The New York Rangers are off to a fast start with a younger, faster team led by budding superstar Marian Gaborik. While the Rangers are currently looking up at the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Atlantic Division, they have always been in first place with the youth hockey players at Ice Hockey in Harlem (www.icehockeyinharlem.org). Despite its popularity with the Rangers organization, few fans in New York City know about the program.
Founded in 1987, IHIH is a non-profit organization organized for youth to use hockey to promote academic achievement, responsibility, teamwork and good character. Inner city kids, who don’t have access to hockey rinks or the money to play the sport, are now able to play hockey at a rink in Central Park. In addition, the kids learn about hard work, teamwork, and physical fitness. These young Rangers fans not only play hockey every week, but they also must attend a weekly class where they learn about hockey, geography, math and current events. IHIH provides these kids with the skills they need to succeed not only in sports, but in life.
Every year, IHIH throws a fundraiser to raise money for the program. This year, the event takes place at the Play By Play at Madison Square Garden and the guest of honor is Rangers goalie Steven Valiquette. The fundraiser will take place on Wednesday, November 18
th, from 6:30 to 9:30. The event will feature an open bar and buffet, but more importantly, fans will get to meet members of the New York Rangers, past and present. Tickets are $125 ($150 at the door) and are available online (
www.icehockeyinharlem.org) or by calling 212-722-0044. Come meet members of the New York Rangers and support a great cause.
