Rose McGowan - What could have been in 'Barbarella'

Sadly, Robert Rodriguez has revealed that his proposed remake of Barbarella will not happen anytime soon.

The man behind Sin City and From Dusk Till Dawn admitted that he was forced to find funds for the movie after Universal Studios choked on their ham sandwich thanks in part to the $80 million price tag, according to Total Film.

"It came to the point where a company from Germany offered us a $70 million budget, which would have been by far the biggest budget I would have ever had for a movie," he said candidly. "It was a really cool, R-rated, sexy, near heavy metal-style version of a Star Wars movie. Something that no one ever could get to see. It was gonna be really great."

Rodriguez said that he was not willing to separate from his five children to film in Germany. Good man.

The remake of the 1968 Jane Fonda sci-fi vehicle (and a guilty pleasure for me when I was 10 <wink>), was to star the lovely Rose McGowan.

Rodriguez will now focus on his Machete project based on his spoof trailer from the Grindhouse double-header with Quentin Tarantino.

Erik Buckman just found $20 in his jacket. You can follow him on Twitter here, here and visit him here.
