Sony Pictures has tapped Tropic Thunder scribe Etan Cohen to pen the script for the third installment of Men in Black.

Cohen is midway through the first draft of the film. No word on any possible plot points but the script is believed to include aliens, cool gadgets and smart-looking suits with somebody getting slimmed.

Director of the first two Men in Black films, Barry Sonnenfeld, will return to helm the third chapter.

Original stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have yet to formally sign on to the project. If demands are met and large sacks of cash are quickly exchanged in a dark alley, Men in Black 3 could begin production as early as next spring. Both actors are reportedly waiting to see a finished script.

Let’s be clear. This project has more to do with Will Smith than Tommy Lee Jones. If Smith doesn’t come back to the series, consider MIB 3 D.O.A. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have much interest in watching Jones carry-on with a substitute.
