Kelly Preston in 'Death Sentence' (Twentieth Century Fox Photo)
In a display of how seriously directors are taking Miley Cyrus’ first dramatic role, Kelly Preston has been cast as her mother in “The Last Song.”
Kelly’s most successful movies are Jerry Maguire, in which she played the part of Avery Bishop; the Arnold Schwarzenegger – Danny DeVito comedy “Twins,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “Waiting to Exhale” and “Jack Frost,” in which she portrayed Michal Keaton’s wife.
Kelly is married to John Travolta.
Miley’s dad will be portrayed by Greg Kinnear, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his part in the Jack Nicholson film “As Good as it Gets.”
Kinnear is also known for his portrayal of Abigail Breslin’s dad in “Little Miss Sunshine,” and he received a Blockbuster Entertainment Award nomination for “You’ve Got Mai.”
He also portrayed Dr. David Ravell in Renee Zellweger’s quirky “Nurse Betty.”
