Rapper Rick Ross this week was unable to talk his away out of losing the No. 1 album position to Bob Dylan.
“Together through Life” is the fifth No. 1 album of Dylan’s career.
Dylan’s self-titled debut album was released in 1962. He has defied labels and left his mark on every popular form of every music since.
After being pegged as a folk singer, he added a drum set and electric guitars to his act, upsetting folkies but dramatically increasing his appeal among others.
Hailed as a protest singer and spokesperson for America’s youth, Dylan annoyed ideologically bent fans by saying he isn’t that interested in politics and denying music can change the world.
Traditionally a hero of liberals, Dylan went on with the help of Johnny Cash to make a mark on country music; and later declared himself a born-again Christian who recorded several religiously themed albums.
The secret to Dylan’s success is he’s Dylan. No other label applies.
Dylan will promote his latest album this summer with a tour of minor league stadiums in the company of Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp.
