Jennifer Aniston conquered prime-time television ratings and movie box office numbers. Is the country music chart next?
Aniston is set to produce and star in “The Goree Girls,” a movie about an imprisoned female country quartet.
In an email interview, Aniston publicist Stephen Huvane confirmed she would do her own singing for the part.
Although rumor has it the movie will be released in 2010, Huvane said there “is no release date. The script is still being written.”
Set in the 1940s, the soundtrack would probably reflect the tone of country music of that era.
It would not be the first time Aniston sang for the cameras. She sung lines from a few numbers on the TV series “Friends,” including “Copacabana” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”
How she will fare with country remains to be seen, but she has a few million fans who will hope for the best. How well she does may depend on whether she portrays a singer with a good voice or one with a bad voice.
Aniston has not lacked for work since around 1990, but it was 1994 when she caused people to take notice with her 10-year role as Rachel Green on the “Friends” series.
The series remains in syndication.
Among her movies are the current hit “Marley & Me,” “Bruce Almighty,” “Along Came Polly” and “Office Space."
