Anyone who knows anything about Kyle Busch knows he's not racing for a top five finish. He's racing for the win every time he gets behind the wheel. He's not happy to come in second or even third place week after week. His 6 wins this season are top for the Nationwide Series, but that's not enough. If he's not winning he's not doing his job.
Richmond is a track Busch enjoys racing on and his history there proves he's got what it takes to win. With three wins in the past Busch hoped to beat out his teammate Denny Hamlin for the victory in Friday night's race. What neither were depending on was Carl Edwards race from the back of the field.
During the first half of the race Busch, Hamlin, and Keselowski traded the lead multiple times. Busch was racing to break the record of most laps led in a season while Hamlin was on the prowl for his second win at his home track. Keselowski was looking to gain on Busch and Edwards in the points standings before the final stretch of races begin. Thrown in the mix was a solid effort by Kevin Harvick who used the momentum of last week's win propel him to a second place finish.
Edwards was a man on a mission during the 250 lap racing. After qualifying 39th Edwards was forced to head to the back for a pre-race change. His last place starting position and the fact that he's driving with a severely broken right foot didn't stop him as he charged to the front of the field and secured his forth win of the season. Edwards gave much of the credit for the win to his team saying, "We were probably going to run second, but that pit stop was what got me to Victory Lane."
Hamlin who started on the pole drove his Z-Line Design Toyota to a 17th place finish after poor pits stops and a bobble on the track caused damage to his car near the midpoint of the race. Hamlin's finish allowed Z-Line to donate $10,000 to Operation Helmet and Busch's 3rd place finish led to a $20,000 donation to Racing for Kids.
When interviewed after the race Busch said, "I don't think we've lost anything. These guys have just gotten better. We've got to do some homework." That statement alone proves that Busch isn't happy with a top five finish. He wants to win them all.
