The National Book Award finalists for 2009 have just been announced by the National Book Foundation. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the awards. The list of finalists follows.

The poster at the right shows the covers of all 20 finalists.

Special awards will also be given this year to Gore Vidal-- a Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters--and to Dave Eggers, the Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community.
