Megan Fox, hate her or love her?

23-year-old Megan Fox was a nobody before she fell into the grips of Michael Bay and the Transformers franchise. The actress has dominated the media since she appeared on the big screen toting a an orange belly shirt fixing Sam's broken down Camero in the first Transformers flick. But with extreme popularity comes a bubbling backlash and Megan Fox faces the brunt of both positive and negative press. But is it fair?

Maybe, maybe not.

Megan Fox is one of the most Googled women of the year, paparazzi hound her every move and her personal life is played out in the media thanks to the cameras of TMZ. Her films generate much publicity and Megan has appeared on almost every talk show under the sun, hosted SNL and will even front 2010's ARMANI underwear campaign. A reason to hate her? Not quite. Megan's publicity is not her fault, directly. Of course, she has a publicist and is often reached for comment on news items, and Megan agreed to her hosting and modeling offer, but she does not dictate whether or not she is hounded by the press. Someone like Megan Fox does not despise her exposure, despite comments to the contrare, but to hate her for this seems a true attack of jealousy. When Megan Fox uses Paris Hilton antics (underwear flashing, a sex tape) in order to generate headlines, then sure, the hate would be warranted.

The things Megan Fox say cause quite a stir, and not necessarily for their impactful, ground-breaking, intelligent prosperities, but because people just think she's stupid, and after some research, it seems that may be true. Some argue Fox' quotes are taken out of context, but there are only so many contexts in which 'When I eat Mexican food, my farts smell like Mexican food', can be found intelligent or even necessary. Not to mention referring to men as weak, claiming to look like Alan Alda, that she wasn't born with a special vagina, that she's insecure but says she's good looking all within a month of each other. When Megan Fox referred to Michael Bay as 'Hitler', many were left wondering whether or not Fox knew who Hitler was. Then there is of course, the humorous interview in which Fox claims to be huge fan of The Office but does not react when the interviewer coyly drops a famous line from the series. A reason to hate her? Yes.

Then there are, of course, her looks. Megan Fox pre-surgery was quite an attractive girl, but distinct and special, no. And while the plastic surgery debate is not limited to the changing face of Megan Fox as it is to say, Lisa Rinna, some do wonder just how deserving she is of her beauty assigned titles. Some feel Megan, who has undergone lip plumping and breast enhancing alterations, as well as a rhinoplasty to sleeken her nose, may have created a beautiful exterior but feel titles based on beauty should be given to actresses less tweaked. I'll vouch for that, I understand the frustration a woman may feel toward Fox about this touchy topic. Pictures of Fox from 2005 display a pretty, girl next door, whereas pictures of Fox from 2009 display a pouty, sex kitten - with the help of a talented plastic surgeon. Perhaps we should kudos the anti-beauty award movement toward Megan and encourage natural beauties. A reason to hate her? You decide. Faux beauty or natural beauty? It's a whole 'nother debate.

Some say Megan Fox is a publicity seeking machine. Some believe she lies. Some say her claims to be a bisexual, comic book loving, geek are low attempts at appealing to the masses in order to gain and keep fame. Well, probably. She wouldn't be the first person to have faked her persona to achieve dominance and she definitely won't be the last. A reason to hate her? Yes. No one likes a liar.

Jennifer's Body bombed. It's no secret Megan Fox is more famous for her appearance than she is her talent, or lack there of, and the Diablo Cody film Jennifer's Body was a box office bomb - it just may not be Megan Fox's fault. In fact, the few million it did make should probably be thanked directly by Fox herself as I'm sure no one went to see it for any other reason than to see her kiss a girl. But the time slot, rating and promotion as a serious horror film may have hurt the films chances at success. A reason to hate Megan Fox? No.

The verdict: Megan Fox is a super star whether you like or not, and her beauty (god given or not) is the sole reason for her insane leap to the top. A mixture of jealousy of her looks and frustration at her surgical means of acquiring them sound off the never ending debate about what constitutes beauty and how far someone will go to be appealing. It would be fair to say Megan Fox is beautiful, but it would be unfair to say she is naturally good looking. To speak of Megan Fox in terms of intelligence (while one must admit she is witty) is a difficult task, as a determination can only come to fruition using her quotes and interviews. Is Megan Fox book smart? No. Is Megan Fox press smart? Yes, or at least her publicist is. Does Megan Fox deserve the hate? Well it depends entirely on your idea of a great, well rounded celebrity.

Personally, I'd pick Amanda Seyfreid.
