Ok, the Titans lost. That’s bad for football, but it’s good for you. With no Titans game on Sunday you can enjoy the time honored tradition of skiing on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. While I don’t know if Dr. King ever skied I do know this is the best time to go skiing in the Southeast. It’s finally been cold enough for long enough for the resorts to build a nice base of snow and you finally have enough time to drive to the resort, ski, and return.

Before we get to the resorts, lets get a few budget skiing tips.

1) Rent your skis before you leave. Rentals are usually cheaper and better quality in town than at the resort. An added bonus is you get to skip the line at the rental shop and go straight to the mountain. Neptune Scuba & Ski is a good place to check out.

2) Twilight or night ski is usually cheaper and there are less people on the slopes. In the evening when people head to their cabin or hotel room you can still ski for a fraction of the cost of a day lift ticket. Plus, less people on the slopes means shorter lift lines which means less waiting and more skiing.

Gentle but icy slopes are the norm for ski areas around Nashville.

3) Don't forget the time! Remember, you lose an hour going to these resorts! None of these mountains are in the Central Time Zone so you will be arriving an hour later than you think. This is especially important if you are leaving Nashville early in the morning to be at the mountain when the lifts open.

Below you will find the details of the four closest ski resorts to Nashville. All mountains are open from 9:00am-10:00pm EST.
