Do you remember Rocco, the dangerously unhealthy meat loving cowboy?  Twenty-eight days ago Dr. Oz challenged him to improve his health by adopting a vegan diet.  Well, the 28-day vegan challenge is up, how did Rocco do?

I'm proud to report that Rocco has been sticking with the diet, according to the Dr. Oz show on Friday.  Rocco told Dr. Mike Roysin that he is sticking with the diet and has no plans to change anything.  Rocco reported feeling like a weight has been lifted from him.  And while a weight quite literally has been lifted from him, Rocco was referring to the mental anguish that his old lifestyle was creating for him.  He indicated that he now feels an ease created by his plant based diet.  When asked by Dr. Oz what the biggest challenge of the diet was Rocco responded that leaving the show that day at the airport was most difficult.  He described passing fast food joint after fast food joint, smelling the smells, and being tempted.  Rocco said that right then and there he asked himself "am I gonna live, or am I gonna die".  He made the choice to live and for the first time in his life grabbed a bag of nuts and a bottle of juice.  Rocco exclaims that he is most surprised by his ability to eat more frequently than before, up to 6 times a day, yet still consume fewer calories.

So, exactly how much did Rocco's health improve?  His waist size decreased by 6 inches, from 49 inches to 43 inches.  His weight decreased from 265 pounds to 235 pounds, a total of 30 pounds in just 28 days.  More importantly, his glucose levels dropped from 172 to 99.  He went from being in the diabetic range to within normal limits in only 28 days.  And his HDL went from 33 to 45.  As you can see, Rocco's health improved dramatically in just a mere 28 days, an improvement that will only get better the longer Rocco sticks with this diet plan.

Will Rocco stick with the diet?  When asked by Dr. Oz what he will change now that the challenge is over, Rocco replied "Nothing right now".  He stated that he had no interest in returning to the way of life that got him in his health situation in the first place.

Inspired by Rocco's dramatic health improvement?  Interested in taking the challenge yourself?  Check out this article to learn where to find support when transitioning to a vegan diet.
