The Anti-A-Rods: Doug & Jackie Christie Get Married, Again

July 8, 7:52 AM
by Laura Vecsey, Seattle People Examiner

As we circle the sporting drain here in Seattle this summer -- losing the Sonics, watching the Mariners crawl out of their MLB hole and reading about Alex Rodriguez's newly launched, front-page news of divorce -- there is good news, or at least there's some self-aggrandizing news: Former NBA star and Seattle natives/residents Doug & Jackie Christie are getting married. Again. For the 13th time.

Yes, we are talking about the Anti-A-Rods.

In New York & Paris, we have Team A-Rod fighting back accusations and court documents from Cynthia Rodriguez alleging emotional abandonment by A-Rod. (We can't imagine! A New York Post photo, left, shows a sickened A-Rod in New York yesterday.)

In Seattle, another one of our pro sports draft picks has made a cottage industry out of flaunting his marriage fidelity.

Doug, out of Rainier Beach and drafted by the Sonics (remember the Sonics?) and his wife Christie "love" each other so much, they renew their vows every year on their anniversary. Hey, if you're too busy planning a wedding, there's no time to plot a divorce, Mr. & Mrs. Doug Christie say.

What does the bride wear for her 13th wedding? A rabbit's foot or some other good-luck charm?

burka The fact that we even know about the Christies' newest nuptial is testament to their hard work of tireless self-promotion. They are the Infinite Love couple, complete with a book and a reality TV show that chronicles how this pair remain faithful to each other. Some have called their marriage a cult of two, since Jackie has kept Doug on the NBA's shortest leash and Doug has agreed to some rigid ground rules, like he can never, ever look at another woman.

Hey, maybe Doug -- who gladly lets his wife call ALL the shots -- will wear his Man Burka to today's Seattle "wedding."
