o for Perry Como's hit record, Seattle. It's up for an opening bid of $4.99 and, sacre bleu, no one has jumped all over this bit of memorabilia. Here's the skinny on the item: Seldom seen, 2"x4", RARE ORIGINAL BILLBOARD magazine trade article from 1969.
The fine print: "Como goes contemporary with a Nashville flavor here in what could make him span the over-30 generation gap and begin his reputation anew with the teen-age set."
Could it be the lyrics of the sing-songy Seattle song that have kept it a sleeper item on eBay today? They are rather taunting and viscious, considering the current state of climatic affairs here in Seattle. Let's recap the opening line:
The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle.
How cruel! The bluest skies you've ever seen may be in Seattle. That is, they are blue when you can see the sky. Which is probably why the sky seems so blue. It's because it's usually NOT so blue, like it's been this entire month of "June-uary,'' when the "June Gloom" has once again turned Seattle into a timeless cloud chamber. Not that we complain. Not when the midwest is under flood water and the east coast is the second coming of Daniel's Broiler.
Should we bid? After listening to the Perry Como recording of 'Seattle' on
YouTube, maybe not. Now, if the Bobby Sherman version pf the Perry Como hit was up for grabs, we might consider.
Up until the past 10 years, it is my understanding that Seattle's gender politics still made it feasible for "Here Come the Brides" kinds of marriages to be arranged out here in this far-left outpost.
