Would a $34.95-per-pound price keep Seattle restauranteurs away from Copper Ri ver Salmon? That sure seemed like a possibility this afternoon when my business lunch at the famously and enduringly excellent Flying Fish produced a lunch menu that did not include Copper River Salmon. No sockeye, no king, no nothing. And to think I emptied my bank account to treat myself and indulge in this uniquely Seattle rite of spring passage.
But with pressure on the salmon industry and West Coast salmon fishing season canceled, the mood surrounding this year's Copper River ritual seems a little, well, washed up.
