If you want to teach your kids to relish all that November has to offer instead of jumping right into jingle bells right after the Halloween costumes are put away, try a family hike at Ridley Creek State Park.
Sunday's forecasted mid-60s weather with full sunshine is a good opportunity to enjoy the 12 miles of trails the park has to offer and maybe even enjoy a picnic at one of the park's picnic areas that also include playground equipment. The wooded trails were perfect for Andrew, our four-year-old, and Caroline could get out of her baby-pack and "hike" the paved, multi-use path.
Families with older kids might want to visit the park's Colonial Plantation which is open weekends from April to November. On Sunday, the plantation will host a "Flax Demonstration" from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
According to its website, Ridley Creek State Park encompasses over 2,606 acres of Delaware County woodlands and meadows. The gently rolling terrain of the park, bisected by Ridley Creek, is only 16 miles from center city Philadelphia. It's also just a short drive from West Chester.
