Today is the day when we remember all those who have been lost while serving in our nation's armed forces.

It is easy to take for granted the rights and freedoms we enjoy in this country and to forget that without the men and women of our armed forces, we would not have a country at all.

It was ordinary citizens that first took up arms to defend what has become the American way of life, and ordinary citizens who continue to do so to this day by enlisting, serving, and sometimes dying for their country. It is in defense of our rights and our freedoms where these ordinary men and women become extraordinary.

We owe it to them to always be prepared to defend the U.S. Constitution at home while they defend it from abroad. Contrary to what some would have you believe, this does not make you an extremist, it makes you a patriot. Our freedoms are what sets us apart from the rest of the world, and I thank everyone who has ever stood guard on the line between tyranny and liberty. Without you, we would have no history to remember and no future to look forward to.
