Behind the shooting finesse of Monique Lamoreux, Team USA has swept past Finland and Sweden in the Four Nations Cup in Finland this week.
Lamoreux, who has a twin sister on this U.S. National Team, scored a goal in the 4-0 whitewash over Finland yesterday, and in the 3-2 edging over Sweden (the Torino 2006 Olympics silver medalist) today.
Against Finland, the 20-year old Hilary Knight contributed with a goal and two assists. Benefactors of Knight's quickness, a University of Wisconsin teammate, Erika Lawler, chipped in a shot , before Jinelle Zaugg-Siergie landed a score.
In the close Sweden game, USA jumped out with a 2-0 lead with Lamoreux and two-time Olympian, Natalie Darwitz, finding the netting in the first period. Darwitz then slapped a shot in from the faceoff circle to begin the third period.
The US stickwomen averaged over 50 shots on goal, almost tripling the average of their opponents.
The 23-women team faces nemesis Canada (the Olympics 2006 gold medalist) in the last match-up of the round-robin series on Friday.
