Although Disney World is famous as a family vacation destination, many visitors don't realize that there is a nudist resort only 20 to 30 minutes away where totally naked vacationers and sun worshippers stroll around in the buff, lay out on the beach, or go for a refreshing swim sans suit. The Cypress Cove Nudist Resort and Spa, located in Poinciana, offers camping, amenities, and activities for nudists, including a beach, pool, restaurant, bar, and full-service spa. It hosts various special events throughout the year, including a pirate festival, Mardi Gras parade, luau weekend, and the Bare Buns Biker Classic.
True to its name, this resort is clothing-optional, and most of the occupants parade around in their bare skin. But it's not a place for hanky panky; it's more of a family resort (many people even bring their kids), and it strives to maintain a respectable environment. Newbies are not required to go completely nude right away. They can disrobe as they begin to feel comfortable, because clothing is allowed in most areas with the exception of the pool and spa.
You might think a nudist resort would be full of hard bodies, but it's actually a place where any body type fits it. No matter how skinny, fat, wrinkled, or even saggy you might be, there will be others of the same type. Although it might feel awkward at first, most people seem to build up their comfort level quite rapidly.
I've visited Cypress Cove twice with a group of friends, although none of us disrobed on either visit. We went there for an art festival, although our main objective was to see what a nudist resort was all about. We all wondered, do people really walk around buck naked? Really? The festival seemed like a safe way to find out. because the general public was welcome during this event. Believe me, we saw full exposure, as well as some interested (and probably painful) piercings. If you'd like to read a humorous take on my experiences, read my blog entries:
