We crawled through a rain soaked commute this morning. Standing water on northbound I-25 flooded out the ramp to westbound 6th Avenue again. We get a lot of big storms during the spring and summer and this ramp has been flooding out for years.Welcome to the summer storm season in Colorado. Lake I-25 is just the latest example of a state that has a BIG problem. It is not CDOT's fault. They can only spend the money the legislature gives them and Colorado's road repair budget is darn near broke. The fix is simple. Each of us needs to step up and bite the big road repair bullet. We need money, lots and lots of money, to repair and rebuild our roads. We can not wait and we can not stick our heads in the sand and hope this problem magically vanishes into our thin, mile high air. So, fees will have to go up, taxes will have to go up and we will probably see toll booths go up on some of our highways, too. Remember the golden rule: No Cash. No Highway Construction. The legislature wanted to help us out this year. Well, they acted like they wanted to help. They gave lip service to four or five measures that would have given us better roads. But in the end, they did nothing. They adjourned this week without passing anything that would have made our driving lives better, leaving us flooded out, crowded in and crawling, bumper to bumper, to work for another year. Fun living here, isn’t it?
