Denver's Red Light Cameras Are Here!

May 21, 11:36 AM
by John Morrissey, Denver Traffic Examiner

I told you several weeks ago that one day Denver would join Aurora, Ft. Collins and other Colorado cities who use robo-cameras to catch drivers who speed through red lights.

If not, here is a link to it.

Thousands of drivers know how it feels to get caught by a red light camera in Aurora.  This one is at Mississippi and Chambers.
Well, today is the day, Denver!

Right now, traffic cameras at four of Denver's most dangerous intersections are taking pictures of anybody who blows through a red light.  Denver has become the latest Colorado city to enlist the help of these new, one eyed, big brother boxes to help them curb cowtown red light running.

Those four intersections are:
6th and Lincoln
6th and Kalamath
8th and Speer
36th and Quebec

How will you know if you get caught running a red light at one of these intersections? Well, do not expect an officer in blue to suddenly materalize and pull you to the curb (although, I would never completely rule out that possibility.)  No, Denver is going to handle red light runners just like they handle drivers caught speeding by their fleet of vans. If you blow through a red light and one of their new traffic cameras catches you, an envelope from the City of Denver will show up in your mailbox with a ticket inside.

Simply pay the fine.  Then, turn toward downtown and promise to sin no more.
